The statewide Tennessee Triennial for Contemporary Art focuses on Tennessee’s existing visual contemporary art scene, while also fostering a connection to the wider contemporary art world. The Triennial spotlights art that is visually engaging, critically respected and easy to find for the general public.

Selected museums, art venues and organizations present art exhibitions simultaneously for approximately three months, every three years. Tennessee Triennial venues and organizations curate their own exhibitions or projects under a common theme, written by the Consulting Curator. This theme connects the various exhibitions and unifies the state’s contemporary art community.

Through the Triennial, Tri-Star Arts is gathering, organizing and promoting statewide contemporary visual art data (information, locations and events), in order to present an overview for a public audience to understand, digest and experience.

Tri-Star Arts pursues this work because we are invested in seeing Tennessee thrive. Contemporary visual art plays a significant role in how humans process the world around us. It reinforces the inherent value of human life and dignity. It facilitates healing and understanding during times of change or distress. It is a mysterious, visual language that can communicate effectively when words reach their limits.
