Omari Booker “Fifteen” at Elephant Gallery

Elephant Gallery is honored to present Omari Booker’s “Fifteen”, his first solo exhibition at the gallery this April, 2023. Booker speaks powerfully and directly in telling his personal story of incarceration, release and perseverance through paintings and poetry. Says Booker: “Fifteen is about a 15-year sentence for a non-violent drug charge. And what it meant to be a human walking through & coming out of such a circumstance”.

Fifteen is a personal triumph for Booker and the works have been years in the making in expectation for this final release from the condition of parole. Featuring dozens of new paintings, this presentation tells the story of the triumph of the human spirit through persistence, resolve, and human connection: “Each person poured life into me in different ways - job opportunity, a grandmother’s endless grace, a mother’s faith, a father’s pragmatic caretaking, mentorship, love letters, (a LOT of) prepaid phone calls, a lover’s devotion, the natural way a child offers a sense of hope about the future”.

In sum Booker states flatly, “This fifteen years is really when I became a practicing artist.” Don’t miss this incredible presentation this spring at Elephant Gallery.
