EADJ Panel: Bodies in Motion as a Call to Freedom
Located at Fisk University’s Cravath Hall on the second floor (in the room with the Aaron Douglas Murals).
Moderator: Selene Wendt
Panelists: Oceana James, Michelle Eistrup and Helina Metaferia
Join us for the EADJ Panel at Fisk University on March 2nd from 2:00 pm–3:30 pm, as we explore the theme of Bodies in Motion as a Call to Freedom. The panel, moderated by Selene Wendt, features panelists Oceana James, Michelle Eistrup, and Helina Metaferia, who draw inspiration from Saidiya Hartman's ongoing research tracing the afterlife of slavery. The panel will pinpoint the sociopolitical significance of "the dance floor itself as a movement against racism and an instrument in the reconstruction of American democracy."
As part of the Tennessee Triennial’s RE-PAIR theme, this panel is rooted in the overarching theme of the intersection of art and sociability, with a focus on the movement of Black bodies as framed within the general theme of rewriting history. This event will provide a space for thought-provoking discussions on history, politics, dance, and the potential for artistic practices to raise societal consciousness and awareness. We invite you to join us for this engaging and inspiring conversation.
This is an EADJ event.
