Future of Museums Panel: Part II
Join us on March 4 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Zeitgeist Gallery for an insightful conversation on the future of museums. As we continue into 2023, the museum experience in Nashville and beyond becomes more interactive and self-directed. With that in mind, we are excited to have open conversations with museum leaders, artists, and gallery professionals who look to the future and see shifts to a greater level of visitor control and new methods of audience engagement.
The panel discussion will focus on the idea that institutions do not exist in a vacuum. Their practices and habits, and their structures are all linked to other institutions they interact with and external factors within their radius, such as the art market, educational systems, governments, and funding bodies. These influences can be read within the body language of a specific institution. Therefore, to make lasting change for an institution means to work and invest resources within these external factors, not just changing an interior institutional behavior.

Fisk University Galleries: By Way of Revolution Workshop
This performance is an in person art workshop, led by artist Helina Metaferia. It is especially designed for women-identifying BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) who are students, staff, faculty and community members at Tennessee universities, commencing in North Nashville on the campus of Fisk University.
The workshop investigates how histories of protest inform our present day moment, and the powerful yet often overlooked role that BIPOC women (both cis and trans) play in them. The workshop will rely on performative gestures of resilience to explore how institutionalized and systemic trauma gets stored in the body, and provide creative and tangible tools for self-care and communal care to help sustain ourselves. The artist will lead participants through a series of writing, mindfulness, and somatic and performance exercises based on histories of social change movements.
