Pre-Texts

  • Vanderbilt University Art Department 1204 25th Avenue South Nashville, TN, 37240 United States (map)

Pre-Texts will take place each morning, March 1-4, from 9:00 am–12:00 pm at the Vanderbilt University Art Department, Auditorium, room 208. Educators welcome!

EADJ is excited to invite all educators to join for an inspiring workshop with Dorris Sommer, from the Harvard Kennedy School. As part of the RE-PAIR theme, this workshop will focus on Pre-Texts, a program for education professionals to employ close reading and critical thinking skills by making art [visual, performance, literary, etc.] based on challenging texts. This program encourages the pleasures of creative interpretation, which fuel admiration for differences among participants from diverse racial, cultural, and gender positions.

During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore the remarkable learning outcomes and unique ways of evaluating students that Pre-Texts facilitators have noted, as well as time-saving strategies for preparing lessons and reaching objectives. This is a great chance to engage with fellow educators and explore ways to introduce Pre-Texts into various disciplines and curricula.
